Doctor’s Office Notifies Data Security Incident

PARKERBURG, West Virginia., September 23, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Physician’s Business Office, Inc. (“PBO”) Parkersburg, West VirginiaA company providing practice management and administrative services for healthcare providers has become aware of a data security incident that may have affected the protected health information of certain individuals. PBO notified potentially affected individuals of the incident and provided them with resources to assist.

AT April 2022, PBO became aware of unusual activity in its network environment. PBO immediately took steps to secure its network and hired an independent digital forensics and incident response firm to help. PBO determined that certain information held on its network was accessed during the incident and may have been obtained without authorization, including certain protected health information held by PBO in the course of its services. PBO then worked diligently to analyze potentially affected data to identify the individuals who may have been affected and the health care providers on whose behalf the information was being held. PBO completed these efforts at June 30, 2022 and reported the incident to the appropriate healthcare providers 26 July2022 After agreeing with notification service providers, PBO worked to collect current mailing addresses for all potentially affected individuals. PBO completed this process September 16, 2022 and agreed to issue notification letters as soon as possible thereafter. On the September 23, 2022all potentially affected individuals have been provided with a notice along with resources to assist them, including additional credit monitoring and identity protection services.

The following protected health information may have been involved in the incident: name, home address, date of birth, social security number, driver’s license number, treatment and diagnosis information, disability code, prescription information, and health insurance account information. PBO has no evidence that any of this information was misused.

PBO takes the security of its information very seriously and has taken steps to prevent this from happening in the future.
