Apple Arcade has a new retro classic in mobile games this week that you’ll definitely want to try out. There’s also a great new battle royale game on Netflix to help you fulfill any of your pirate wishes. Also, we learned that Monument Valley 3 is coming soon.
With so many fun games to discuss, let’s not linger any further. To the main event!
Can you dig it? (Yes you can)
Apple Arcade has been getting into retro music lately – with the addition of Amazing Bomberman and the OutRun-inspired game Horizon Chase, we’ve got pixel art perfection in the form of Shovel Knight Dig.
It’s a collaboration between Shovel series creator Knight Yacht Club Games and mobile game master Nitrome, and it’s amazing.
The platform adventures of the other games in the series are here, but they are more closely focused on digging to find treasures and trinkets as you navigate branching paths to the end of the game.
Each playthrough of the game feels different, thanks to the fact that every time you play the game is updated a bit, in true roguelike/roguelite style.
Then cracker is a beautiful retro aesthetic wrapped in a very smart, modern game design.
All aboard the good ship Netflix
Netflix subscribers have a growing catalog of quality games to try through the iPhone and iPad app, and the latest is a battle royale game set on a high seas infested with pirates.
This was done by Netflix regulars Rogue Games and Amuzo, who are now established game makers.
While they clearly took inspiration from superb brawl stars in how you progress and upgrade your characters, it’s never a bad time in real-life battles to roam the salty sea firing cannons and dropping explosive mines to take down other pirates. . Recommended and completely free of in-app purchases and ads, just like Apple Arcade games.
Monument Valley 3 will be released, but not soon
Ustwo Games told a little more about the long-awaited Monument Valley 3 this week as part of our interview for the next game, Desta: The Memories Between, coming to Netflix next week.
From the looks of it, the team working on the game is growing and starting to narrow down the concept of the game, although Ustwo Games Chief Creative Officer Danny Gray warns that the game is still “far away”.
We got some early details about the game back in March – when it appeared that the game could have a “green” theme and is run by eco-warrior and former Subway Surfers designer Jennifer Estaris.
It’s not yet clear which platform it will land on, but we’re willing to bet it’s a direct fight between Apple Arcade and Netflix to make it exclusive. It will be interesting to see which tech giant Ustwo Games chooses to side with.
What else to play this week
That’s it, folks!
That’s all the iOS gaming news for this week. There are some exciting iPhone and iPad games on the horizon that we can’t wait to get our hands on. At the moment, there are more than enough amazing releases over the past few days to keep us entertained, and in a variety of genres.
At the very least, be sure to play Shovel Knight Dig as it’s a great new game in the series. Of course, if you’re looking for something a little more relaxed, Lettermon is a fun way to relax and pass the time with adorable puzzles and alphabetic characters.
Until next week!
