3 Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)

As the last part of a three part series, Maze Runner: The Death Cure lived up to high expectations. Originally scheduled for release in 2017, the release date was pushed back to 2018 due to O’Brien needing time to recover from a serious injury he sustained while filming action films (as stated by Vulture). However, with the same line-up of O’Brien, Scodelario, Brodie-Sangster, Dexter Darden and more, the last remaining Gladers attempt to take over the WCKD organization to get a cure for the Flair virus, mostly for Newt (Sangster). who gets infected in the end. 2 Maze Runner: Trial by Fire (2015)

After the huge success of the first film, fans and critics alike have been eager to see if the franchise continues in the same direction. Maze Runner: Trial by Fire released just a year after the first installment, with additional actors such as Nathalie Emmanuel, Giancarlo Esposito, Aidan Gillen and others added to the ensemble cast. The plot takes place immediately after the Gladers managed to get out of the WCKED maze. Their hopes of starting a new life free of the organization quickly vanish under the carpet when they realize that Scorchi is just another test to test their abilities. They quickly realize that the Labyrinth was a safe haven compared to what’s out there: a higher chance of infection and already infected “geeks” eager to procreate.

AT trials by fire, we can see new sides of the characters as they deal with the real world, a scorched sun, and we can watch their survival skills and teamwork in more detail. The production really didn’t have to worry about critical reviews when maze runner the franchise has managed to create a devoted fandom that even now, four years later, returns to it to remember and experience a sense of nostalgia.

On the subject: “Divergent”: what could make film adaptations better

one Maze Runner (2014)

Considered better than most previous book-to-film adaptations for young adults. maze runner became Wes Ball’s directorial debut in 2014. The first part, based on the book series of the same name, follows a boy, Thomas (O’Brien), who wakes up in a rusty elevator with no memory of his memories. He meets the Gladers, who live in a labyrinth and spend years trying to find their way out by building a functional society among themselves. What makes the first movie the best and most exciting is our lack of knowledge about the world; the audience is essentially forced to learn about the rules and functions along with the protagonist.

Despite such a strong deviation from the actual source material, maze runner was done fantastically. The actors did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life and giving them personality. What caught our attention from the start was that Thomas and Newt’s relationship was crafted to “become a gay romantic tragedy.” The filmmakers didn’t even try to make Thomas and Teresa (Scodelario) a convincing couple. And what potentially makes a franchise interesting to the very end is not the plot, but the relationships between the characters that grow and develop and hurt.
