What is a cloud library and how to use it

Love to read but don’t have room for a lot of paperback books at home? Would you rather have free access to a huge number of eBooks and audiobooks?

If this is you, go to your local library and get a library card. With this card, you can access fantastic online resources such as the cloud library.

What is a cloud library?

A cloud library is an application that many public libraries use to provide their members with access to a large database of online content. This content includes e-books and audio books.

Cloud Library is a simple and user-friendly application that can be downloaded to the following devices:

  • iOS devices including iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone.
  • All Android devices.
  • Kindle Fire, Fire HD and Fire HDX.
  • Web browsers including Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
  • E-books compatible with Adobe Digital Edition.

How to access the cloud library

Just like you can access free movies and music at your local library, you can access a lot of free e-books and audiobooks with a library subscription.

You must obtain a library card in order to receive your Cloud Library login credentials. The membership number or barcode you receive from your library and the PIN you choose will become your Cloud Library login.

To start enjoying content in Cloud Library, download the Cloud Library app on your preferred reading or listening device. You can select language, state and city. Then sign in with your library barcode or membership number and the PIN associated with your library card.

What content does the cloud library offer?

The cloud library contains many popular electronic and audio books. This covers all genres, including:

  • Classic
  • Children’s books
  • Novels for young adults
  • new adult
  • New releases
  • Fiction
  • Documentary literature

If you’re looking for a specific title, Cloud Library has an advanced search feature that allows you to search by author, narrator, editor, or title. If you have an ISBN, publication date, general topic, or category, you can also search this way.

If the book you are looking for is not available in your local library through the cloud library, you can always check out several digital libraries where you can download books for free.

How to use the cloud library

To check out and enjoy an ebook or audiobook in the cloud library, just select a title. You’ll be taken to a page where you can borrow content or set aside if it’s already being used by another library visitor.

You can also click the Save for Later button to add the title to your reading list in the future.

After you have borrowed the selected title, you can read its contents on your device. You can read it through the app or download it with arrow to down for offline reading.

When you’re done with content, you can return it to your library by pressing the red return button. This will return the book to the virtual shelves of the cloud library and allow other members of the library to use it as well.

Your home library will determine your travel restrictions. They typically range from three to five e-books or audiobooks retrieved at the same time. Likewise, future content retention is typically limited to five at a time, but your local library also determines this number.

The loan period is usually twenty-one days, but depends on the terms of your library’s membership. Renewal of books you actively read is available through select libraries in Cloud Library.

Fun is easy if you have a library card

Libraries are great resources for hours of free entertainment. The cloud library gives you access to a wealth of content at your fingertips. From classics to the latest bestseller, you’ll never miss an adventure with Cloud Library.
